CS:GO Releases New Battle Royale Mode ‘Danger Zone’, Now Free to Play

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the massively popular first person shooter and eSports staple, has just announced and released a new battle royale game mode ‘Danger Zone’. The team at Valve has also announced the game has now shifted to a free to play model.

In a blog post at the CS:GO website, the team at Valve offer players an idea of what they can plan to expect in the new battle royale mode. Players will enter into a match with up to 18 players, where you will find weapons, supplies and other necessities to survive against the competition. Entering players will have the ability to choose their spawn points in what is being called ‘Blacksite’/ Your character will be equipped with a tablet that provides various detail and intel on your surroundings, helping decide your next move and possibly whether you live or die. With a low player count in game, matches could roll much faster comparative to other current battle royale shooters such as Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s Blackout mode, which support up to 100 players each match. Players will be able to will be able to enter the Danger Zones with parties in both duos and trios groupings.

With the CS:GO team also announce the switch to free-to-play status, players who previously purchased the game will receive a commemorative Loyalty Badge they can display on their profile, along with receive an upgrade to the new Prime Status. Prime Status continue to match you with other Prime Status players, in addition to giving players access to the new Souvenir MP5-SD | Lab Rats skin (only available by earning XP while playing Danger Zone matches) and the the new Danger Zone case. The case features 17 community-designed weapon skins, and the Horizon Knives as rare special items.

The update is available now to download for previous players. New players will need to create a free Steam account and download the Steam client before accessing the free download for CS:GO.
