Fallout 76 Players Will Receive Fallout Classic Collection For Free, Bethesda Confirms

While Bethesda and the Fallout brand have struggled to find their footing at the end of 2018, the newest iteration of the franchise, Fallout 76, continues to find its way into the upper ranks of sales charts since its release. Between the multiple in-game issues, along with the unfortunate canvas bag situation with those who purchased the Power Armor Edition of the game, the company is trying to find ways to get back into the good graces of fans around the world; and it looks as though they may be taking another step in fixing the bond.

In a statement released on the company’s social media account, Bethesda will be providing every player who has played Fallout 76 in 2018  with a free copy of the Fallout Classic Edition, including those players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The collection comes bundled with all three of the franchise’s original PC releases, including Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game, Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, and Fallout 2. The series first appeared on Windows PC, Mac OS and MS-DOS in 1997 to critical acclaim, which resulted in multiple PC sequels and spin-offs, along with a PlayStation 2 and Xbox release of Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.  Bethesda claimed the rights to the Fallout IP after the series original publisher, Interplay, went bankrupt. Currently, the titles are only available on PC, but this release will mark the first time these specific titles will appear on current generation consoles.

Bethesda states entitlement of the collection is expected to go live in early January. For more information, please visit their website.

Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition Bag Exchange Requests Are Releasing Player’s Data to Other Players

It’s official: we have reached the peak of how much of a PR nightmare Fallout 76 has become for Bethesda Game Studios. You thought #CanvasBagGate was bad? Wait until you see this…

It is being reported that customers who purchased the Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76 and have sent a request to have a new canvas bag replaced are having their personal data sent to various other players who are doing the same thing. Let me explain; A Reddit user by the name of u/Jessiepie posted the following on the Fallout 76 subreddit this afternoon:

Hi guys! First time Reddit poster here. I am a gleeful vault dweller as yourselves and as of this moment I am receiving every single one of your support tickets on my Bethesda account. Mostly it’s your receipts for you power armor set requesting a new bag. These receipts contain all your info. Your email and home address and the card you used to buy this extremely glitched game. I can see the problems you are having with the game, yes I’m having them too. And I know a few of you want a refund that Bethesda has said can’t happen. I can update your ticket for you, if you’d like. And close it! How fun is that? Please rest assure I have no desire to stalk you or mess with your Fallout 76 experience. I just wanted to let y’all know that this is happening atm. Anyway, I gave Bethesda a heads up via the Twitter. So we will see. I wouldn’t want to be the person having to respond to all of you. Currently there’s 8 pages of canvas bag requests, tickets and “fix or refund me” demands. Is there anyone enjoying the game like me? Oh well! See you in Appalachia. Be nice to each other. I love you!

Other users soon chimed in, confirming the original posters comments, saying they were also receiving request inquires from other users. It seems like it isn’t just basic information either; credit card numbers, home addresses and more were all attached to the accounts, due to many users attaching copies of their receipts as to provide proof of purchase.

A thread also appeared on Bethesda’s community forums, where a user tried to make the company aware of the issue before it got out of hand. While he did not receive a response, a moderator of the forum (who in a likelihood is attached to the company to some degree) locked the thread, no longer allowing users to respond.

On Monday, Bethesda released a tweet stating that they were going to begin the process of replacing the nylon bags that were sent with the Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition, instead of the advertised canvas bag. No timetable has been established on when the company plans to fulfill the request inquiries, but it seems like after the current issues with customer support, it might be longer than both the company and fans expected.

RUMOR: Bethesda is Facing Large Scale Issues Behind the Scenes

Fallout 76 has been the talk of the town recently, and for once not for good reason. Normally, the fan-favorite IP is making headlines for its vast post apocalyptic open world, filled with deep lore and interesting characters; but as of late, the state of the new multiplayer iteration of the series is being viewed as the exact opposite. Lifeless, buggy, empty, and lonely have all been buzzwords swarming around Fallout 76. While fans try to stay positive on the studio knowing that more traditional experiences are in the pipe from the main Bethesda Game Studios Rockville, Maryland studio, such as the new IP Starfield and the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls VI, a flurry of new rumors surrounding that studio are painting a darker stroke of the current climate.

In a post on 4Chan’s video game centered forum board, one user insinuates that much of the company is panicking behind the scenes on more than just Fallout 76. Responding to a comment, the user states:

So, you can all take the confirmation from the other day that Blades is delayed. I told you but you thought it was coming out with TGA.

Here’s a review: it’s a shit show right now. Starfield has been STUCK in a set of a half dozen NOWHERE development loops for almost 2-3 years. Entire studios are devoted to fixing these, but Maryland NEVER accepts the solution and they are always starting over. Space combat does not work in this engine. One studio made it work in a new engine, it was pretty awesome – but Maryland threw a fucking fit. Do we make a new level creation tool set, or so we pigeonhole a broken space combat feature into the old kit. Literally one year going back and forth on that and as of today we are NOWHERE. A half dozen more things like that.

Because shit is stuck, the story has been rewritten TWICE, and a while game’s worth of levels and bosses had been made and scrapped. People are seriously asking who is in charge.

Blades is about the only thing that’s making progress. And it’s shit. It’s not fun. Here’s what it is: it kind of works – that is, it seems to mostly function. But my god after the 2 minutes of novelty , tap and swipe swordplay – oh god it’s dull. VR fake, shallow TES is also fun for about 5 minutes. Still, soo many bugs, especially cross-platform (main reason for delay).

Fallout 76 is killing us, it’s causing panic and all these projects are unraveling.

Here’s the rub, though: the main problem is our CEO – a huge jackass who have never touched a videogame and is the worst sort of cash grabby EA type of person you could imagine. He has threatened physical violence on management and devs to get loot boxes etc into games.

No shit, look this up: he’s formerly a banking con man who got a slap on the wrist twice BECAUSE HIS CRIMES WERE DEEP IN GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION. Something about the drug trade and terrorism. No, I don’t have any inside knowledge on that – google BCCI.

A quick summary of the major points are as follows:

  • Blades is delayed due to its lack of fun, but is running functionally for the most part; biggest issues are with cross platform performance.
  • Fallout 76 is now the main focus with all of the major Bethesda Game Studios branches. Panic around the game is starting to have multiple projects unravel.
  • Starfield seems to be stuck in a development loop. Bethesda had multiple studios working on trying to fix the project until Fallout 76 issues, but has since started over multiple times. The Gamebryo/Creation engine seems to be the biggest issue. Supposedly one studio created a new engine for it that worked, but the head studio in Maryland wanted nothing to do with it. Story has been rewritten twice, and there seems to be no clear direction or no true leader assigned to the project.
  • CEO is trying to over-monetize multiple projects in anyway he can, from loot boxes to DLC. No background in games, but does have a bit of a shady past with association to the BCCI scandal in 1992.

The user, who remained anonymous, insinuates that he is an employee at one of the central Bethesda Game Studios; and considering he names the main Maryland studio as someone he’s working with, it seems he may be an employee of the Austin, Texas branch. If so, that would line up considering the development of Starfield seems to be headed by the Austin studio. Starfield has been rumored to be in development for several years, with preproduction beginning not long after Skyrim released. Rumors circulated that the game was supposed to be revealed at Bethesda’s E3 2017 conference, but was cut late into the event’s production.

What is truly interesting are the remarks regarding the CEO he mentions. By safe assumption, I would have to imagine he means the CEO of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of publisher/developer Bethesda, who is Robert Altman. After doing some research, Altman was charged in indictments by the New York District Attorney and the Department of Justice, as well as being named in a civil suit by the Federal Reserve in 1992, due to his alleged involvement in the BCCI scandal. Altman was acquitted of all charges, but it does line up with the rumors stated above. But all of this is also public information that is easily accessible.

Keep in mind, all of this is considered to be rumors and you should take it with the biggest mound of salt possible, but it is interesting to see how some of the supposed rumors or “leaks” lineup with various events surrounding the company. Personally, I hope none of this is the case because I want to see the company continue to succeed. They provide some of the most detailed worlds and craft some of the grandest adventures in gaming, and I truly think their narrative is only beginning from the publisher aspect (DOOM, Wolfenstein, Prey, etc). Yet, where there is smoke, there is at least the smallest flame.

Fallout 76 Canvas Bag Debacle Nears End as Bethesda Releases Replacement Plan

Fallout 76 has struggled out of the gate since its launch a few weeks ago, to say the least. Poor review scores, various bugs & glitches, along with communication issues have lead Bethesda Games Studios into a PR surrounding the game. On top of that, Bethesda found themselves caught in the middle of an issue surrounding the Power Armor Edition of the game, in which fans who purchased the special edition of the bag were promised a high-quality West Tek canvas duffel bag to store the replica T-51 Power Armor Helmet that came included, only to receive a cheap, nylon version of said bag. Fans have complained that the game has now fell under the confines of false advertising, with Bethesda even acknowledging the misstep in communication on changing the material of the bags, and offering players who bought the edition $5 of in-game credit; to no one’s surprise, that didn’t go over too well. But, the company has confirmed that a plan to replace the bags for the proper material is now in place.

In a tweet released by Bethesda’s Support account, the company stated that they are finalizing plans for replacement canvas bags for the Fallout 76: Power Armor Edition. Bethesda encourages those who bought the collector’s edition of the game to visit the direct link they provided in the tweet and submit a request ticket by January 31st, 2019. No timetable was provided by Bethesda on when the bags would be ready to ship.

Those who have purchased the game are struggling to find answers on a multitude of issues and requests aimed towards the usually transparent publisher/developer. Some customers who purchased the game have been able to get returns for it, but now the communication with Bethesda has become crossed on how to receive a refund for the game, which may lead to possible legal issues.

What Bethesda does next will be interesting to say the least. With the highly anticipated new IP, Startfield, possibly next up on the docket for Bethesda Games Studios, along with the developer’s crown jewel, the Elder Scrolls, having its sixth entry arrive after that, the company wants to get back into the good graces of fans; and something tells me replacing canvas bags won’t be enough.

Bethesda Game Studios Releases First Address About the State of Fallout 76

The release of Fallout 76 was rocky to say the least. Many retailers saw drastic drops in pre-orders heading into the game’s launch, and gamers have struggled to stably play the game, let alone enjoy it. A variety of bugs, glitches, and server issues have littered the game post-launch, and while fans have tried to make the best of the broken mess the game is currently said to be in, many have started filing for returns and have shaken the associated sunk cost fallacy associated with the game. During this time though, Bethesda Games Studios has remained relatively quiet in terms of addressing fans to the issues they are facing, much to said consumers’ collective displeasure.

Yesterday, Bethesda finally started to end their silence and began addressing fans via Fallout 76‘s subreddit page. Bethesda’s official reddit account began commenting on several threads with the following general statement:

Hello! Thank you for your post, and for your feedback. We want you to know that we’re always looking through posts, tweets, and comments for any and all feedback on the game. We truly appreciate you reaching out to us, and letting us know your thoughts, concerns, ideas, and giving us an idea of what you’re looking for.

We will have new information to share soon, so keep an eye out this week!

On the thread linked above, the comment had amassed over 11.3 thousand downvotes in 22 hours. To say the response was taken negatively is quite an understatement.

That brings us to today. Bethesda, who acknowledged the error in the approach to communication yesterday, released a statement detailing the approach that the company was planning on taking addressing issues with their newest version of the Wasteland. In the statement, released in the same manner as the previous day’s via the r/fo76 subreddit, the company said:

Hi r/fo76,

We know you’re frustrated and angry at the state of things right now, whether it’s the issues you’re running into in the game, or the lack of communication about fixes, updates, or news. To be clear, this account is run by us, Bethesda Game Studios community team. Yesterday we posted to let you know that we’re still here gathering your feedback and, more importantly, working to get info from the team we can share. We didn’t want you to think the silence meant nothing was happening. We’re sorry and understand this was not the right approach, and we’ll work to make a better bridge between you and the dev team at BGS.

We’re posting an article today that has further information about the upcoming updates that were mentioned a few weeks ago. In addition, we’re aiming to get you the patch notes for these updates quicker and will have them available for December 4th’s update later this week. Probably Thursday or Friday. We’d like to make these articles weekly to make sure you know what the studio is working on as it relates to issues you may be experiencing, quality of life requests you have, or new features they’re excited to share.

Please take a look at the below to see what we’re posting today on Fallout.com, and as always, let us know if you have any thoughts or feedback. This article covers high-level issues being worked on as the patch notes will go at length into what’s being fixed with each update.

December 4, 2018 – Next week’s update will bring an increase to the Stash limit, as well as a variety of performance and stability improvements, balance changes, and multiple bug fixes to the game. We’ll have full patch notes available later this week ahead of Tuesday’s update. Some notable issues being addressed in this update include:

  • Stash Limit Increased: We know many of you have been asking for an adjustment to the Stash storage limit, and we’re happy to share that we’re increasing it from 400 to 600. While this is somewhat conservative, we plan to increase the storage cap further once we verify that this change will not negatively impact the stability of the game.
  • Boss Loot: Players should correctly receive two to three items after taking down a boss, depending on the creature’s difficulty and level.
  • Cryolator Effects: Players hit with the Cryolator are now Chilled, Frosted, or Frozen depending on how many times they are hit. The duration of movement speed reductions applied by these effects have also been decreased from 2 hours to 30 seconds.
  • Respawning When Overencumbered: We’ve resolved an issue affecting players who die while overencumbered that only allowed them to Respawn at Vault 76. Now, overencumbered players will be able to respawn at the nearest discovered Map Marker.
  • Stuck in Power Armor: We’ve addressed an issue in this patch that could cause players to become stuck inside Power Armor. We’re also aware that there are some additional cases where this can occur, and we are actively investigating them.

December 11, 2018 – The next update after December 4 is currently planned for the following week. Like previous patches, it will include a variety of bug fixes, but we’re also planning to bring some more notable changes and features to the game. You can catch a preview of these improvements below, and a full list of changes will be included in the December 11 patch notes.

  • PC Additions: A Push-to-Talk setting for Voice Chat, 21:9 resolution support, and a Field of View setting are all being implemented on PC with this update.
  • SPECIAL Respec: After level 50, you’ll be able to choose between a new Perk Card, or moving a SPECIAL point you had previously allocated.
  • C.A.M.P. Placement on Login: Your C.A.M.P. will no longer be automatically blueprinted and stored if someone is occupying your location when you log into a server. Instead, you’ll receive a notification that your space is occupied. If you decide to find a new home for your C.A.M.P. on that server, it will be free to do so. However, if you don’t attempt to place down your C.A.M.P., you will be able to switch to a new server where that spot is vacant and your C.A.M.P. will be fully assembled and waiting for you.
  • Bulldozer: This is a new C.A.M.P. feature that will allow you to remove small trees, rocks, and other obstructions so it’s easier to create and place your C.A.M.P. when and where you want it. You can also use the Bulldozer to clear these items from the surrounding area to make your C.A.M.P. feel more like home!

Thank you, and please don’t stop letting us know how we can improve our communication and what else needs to be addressed in the game. Once we finalize the patch notes for the December 4 update, we’ll be sure to post them here and all patch notes and weekly updates going forward.

While the company has begun a dialogue between themselves and the player base, many fans are hoping this is a turning point for not only the game, but the studio with future entries as well. Since news first spread on Bethesda Games Studios deciding to stay with the dated Gamebryo/Creation engine for the upcoming Starfield and the Elder Scrolls 6 instead of creating a new engine, fans have continued to question the company’s mission and ideology for games moving forward. With studio director Todd Howard on record saying that they team wants to stick to the current engine due to how fast the team can produce games, media members and fans alike are starting to second guess the level of detail and polish Bethesda has been know to have applied to their games for years, and even into the future.

For now, fans can look forward to what appears to be more of a transparent relationship with the development team in regards to Fallout 76, and hope that with time, Bethesda can turn the tide and improve user experience across the board on the game.

Bethesda Pens Note to Fans Ahead of Fallout 76 Release

Que up Country Roads; the anticipated multiplayer spin on the fan favorite Fallout series, Fallout 76, officially drops Wednesday, November 14th, 2018. Ahead of the release, the team at Bethesda Game Studios penned a heartfelt letter to fans and the multiple development teams attached to the game, expressing their deepest appreciation for everything that has been done for the game.

“It’s with great excitement that we’re finally launching Fallout 76, a Fallout game unlike anything we’ve done. Really, it’s a game unlike any we’ve ever played” the studio wrote in the letter published on their site, Bethesda.net. “With Fallout 76, we’ve woven together parts of our past Fallouts, the survival genre, and massive online games, to create something unique: a game where you share in the story and the struggle to survive, with your friends, with strangers and with us.”

Fallout 76, which is developed and produced in house by Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks respectively, uses a modified version of Bethesda’s Creation Engine, that was tweaked to specifically accommodate multiplayer game play. Modifications to the engine, which was first implemented in the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, was handled by Bethesda’s team in Austin, Texas, who at the time were working on the now-cancelled hero shooter BattleCry in 2012, leading many to believe the game has been in development for around five years. The letter also states that help was given in the development cycle by ZeniMax Online, id Software, and Arkane.

“A huge thanks to everyone at Bethesda and ZeniMax who supported us in making this game”, continued the Maryland based studio. “Creating a new style of game has taken the best from not just our own producers, programmers, artists and designers – but great efforts from across the company.”

Finally, the company gave thanks to all that participated in the beta for the game over the past month, saying the feed back has made the game better each week. Speaking on the “B.E.T.A” (Break It Early Application) and moving forward, the company encouragingly wrote “We have an incredible list of updates we’ve begun work on – from C.A.M.P. building improvements, new quests and events, new Vaults opening, character respecing, a faction-based PVP system, and much more.” The beta, which was released to industry members and those who preordered the game, was received with generally favorable impressions, with most criticism falling on stability issues with the PC version of the game.

Fallout 76, which launches on November 14th, 2018 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, sets players loose in the post-apocalyptic hills of West Virginia, where you must survive the ever growing threat of mutated beasts, all while working together with other players to rebuild the world around you.

How many of you will being taking the country roads home in Fallout 76 later this week?
